Grüß Gott from Salzburg, Austria.
I started my day picking up Ken at the Munchen Flughaven. I was driving my French POS Citroneon and had to exchange cars thankfully. The wiper spritzer was impossible to thaw in this weather. I think I read -9 on the cars gauge. Thats centigrade. I got into the airport early enough and text Ken to meet me at the Hertz counter. Took awhile to convince the guy that I wasnt leaving until I got a different car. Ended up getting a Chevy Traverse (the French version) :( . It does have a Navi system that is very cartoonish. We had a pretty ride south into Austria. We needed to stop somewhere for a cup of coffee and decided again to pull into a gas station/MceeD. They had a McCafe. Wow, this was not your typical McDonald's. It had computer order kiosk, ipads located through out at individual stands, a complete coffee barista bar and the strangest bathrooms. It was a real Disney type setting.
We drove into Salzburg and hotel shopped for awhile. Ended up at a descent place near some sites. The day was pretty much going into some open shops and stopping at a coffee shop to get a cappucino and a strudel. In and out of a few churchs to get warm a little was the ticket. Walked and stopped at some beer halls that we have been to before. Nothing like a bunch of monks serving beer and looking pissed off. This place is so cool. Its actually a church with the beer stube and a smorgasborg of foods to choose from. We froze our asses off walking near the river to get there, but well worth it. Very good beer out of big thick mugs. I just watched the people as they came in to greet and talk. Just a place to meet up and get out of the house I'm sure. There are kids and some very old people just hanging. We spent a good hour just getting warm and catching up on our lives. As we headed back to the hotel, we had to cross one of the pedestrian bridges that crosses the Salzack River. It makes you want to stop and just view the city. There are bright spot lights that illuminate the castle on the hillside and the church's that are all around. This place is just like out of the Sound of Music.
As we headed back to the hotel, we became aware of very few restaurants were open on Sunday evenings. Actually found an Itallion place open and crowded. Only place to go apparently.
Now I am back in the room relaxing to write. I know we are headed south to a town called Hallstatt, Austria. If you look it up on Google images. Wow what a place. I reserved a room and found out later no wifi. So, I may not be able to write anything tomorrow. I will take and save a bunch of pix.
